A business contact recently told me how he joined the management team of a start-up at the age of 71. Three years on, the company has achieved multi-million pound profits.

We often think of start-ups as the province of young hot-shots but “older folk” tend to dominate the cutting edge of, for example, clean energy, nanotechnology and biotechnology.

Whilst younger entrepreneurs tend to be unhindered by notions of barriers to change, market disruption and creative thinking, older entrepreneurs have the experience, social capital, management nous and delivery focus to turn ideas into profitable reality.

So a good team makes the most of all age groups.

And the same should be true of your marketing team.

A truly-effective marketing team not only needs to produce brilliant creative ideas they also need to understand your business challenges. Producing solutions that truly move you forward requires a combination of the two.

Older people: they know cool stuff the young folk don’t.
